Deepavali Ad by Finas

Whilst I am appalled watching this ad.. I am also wondering what were they thinking to approve such an ad and not expect a stir of controversy..

For those who have not viewed it.. here is the link.. Finas Deepavali Ad

For those who have.. let me continue whinging..

The advertisement in question does not depict the actual case today.. I am shocked by the picture painted here.. The world has become smaller with the new digital era.. but in the minds of some it has grown even smaller..

In the first place, if the very pregnant woman was uncomfortable in eating at her in-laws she could have bloody stayed home and continued her murukku making.. rather than disrespect them by not eating in their home.. Funny that many do not understand that the package of marrying any man of any descent will mean that you have to accept their wares and wears.. but superiority in this case applies and that is obvious..

Why can we not look beyond our differences and celebrate our similarities?? Must we continue to be in the fashion of ignorance??

I shudder to think what will happen in future..
1Malaysia in this fashion.. will become 1MalayMalaysia..

A Man's 'Erection'

The past few weeks has seen a rhapsody of blunders.. The best thus far has been a certain need for an ‘erection’ of a 100 storey building and of course mega refurbishment of Little India – Brickfields..

My rendezvous for late night ala Malaysian latte is now in the midst of a complete makeover.. Makeovers are to enhance the look and feel but this is not the same with the good old Brickfields..

Wise or Otherwise, You Tell Me!!!

Congestion – traffic in no way has eased.. infact there are more cars double parked, hordes of two wheelers and of course the place seems like a place with a never ending party..

Arches – Oh! Those lovely arches!! Perhaps the arches were done to enhance the look of the place (of course cover the shop frontages as well).. all the place actually needed was sprucing up.. not extra structures that’s going to cause City Hall tonnes of money (tax payers money) to build and maintain as well..

Street Lamps – There is one, two or too many. One can be seen every 10 metres.. in times when reducing, reusing and recycling should be the voice of the nation, here we are continuously flushing good money down the toilet bowl.

The Gigantic Fountain – Another sight for sore eyes.. A glimpse of it and enough said..

Whilst a congratulations is due to Dato’ Saravanan for leading this ambitious project and actually delivering it.. I am also quite wanting to see if this facade will be maintained 6 months down the road..

I hope to see this infamous ‘erection’ boost the economy of the business community there.. but that is a wise woman’s wish..

wise or otherwise.. you tell me!!

What's dished out

The past three weeks was a roller coaster week for me.. with so much happening at work and of course not forgetting work with ATMAH.. there were moments where i felt stifled and almost on the brink of a break down..

Things continued, as i realised that i could have bit more than i can chew.. and to top it all up.. the 'not wanting to let go' was another reason for all that extra unnecessary stress.. Realising that i tried much to hand over the stuff.. but it was a wee bit late..

Got into a verbal brawl with my team mate.. to top it up.. also got into another verbal brawl with the lady of the house.. now the good question will be what did i learn from all this.. i am unsure.. but i think i kinda see the answer vaguely..

1) STOP volunteering for everything.. contemplate if you can handle it first
2) SPEAK only when spoken too.. do not offer info that is not solicited for\
3) ENJOY the pleasures in life..

i have so much more to learn.. but this at this point should suffice to share..

Paul the Octopus

Germany exited WC2010 in an exciting match early this morning (in my part of the world)... And yes, there were so many predictions.. I am told, it was suppose to be quite a match with the German team having the most goals as opposed to Spain team attempting the most ‘attacks’..

And then comes the existence of Paul the Octopus.. a German resident with his amazing capabilities, predicted that Spain will win the match.. Oh! By the way, I didn’t know of Paul’s existence until last week.. I hear he predicted with precision 10 out of 11 matches..

Now this is where the question starts – Did the prediction
1. Cast a doubt on the German team
2. Give a boost to the Spanish team and
3. Confuse a whole load of punters

So now, if the Universe hears you and knows that without a doubt the team is going to win.. the Universe will grant you that, right?.. I hear that the German team did not play as well as they did in some of their other matches.. so, did they lose the battle in their mind before heading for the war? I wonder..

As for the Spaniards, I have nothing much to say but my nephew Gajendra Jeyakumar supports them.. and it is his birthday wish they win (its his birthday today).. Low and behold - they won.. perhaps they won the battle in their minds before heading for the war.. :)

At the end of the day, one thing World Cup brings to this world every 4 years - the celebration of humanity.. and that’s admirable..

my two cents,

A Perspective I Fail To See Part 2

My rantings here is purely my point view, wise or otherwise.. twisted or straight.. its my view strictly...

What are the odds of having two different conversations and people telling you that Research is bullshit (BS).. well it happened to me last week..

So what if we don’t have research teams in the world.. We would Captain Cavemen living in the caves with leaves as loin cloth and certain lactating anatomy heading south to your waist..

Research is connected to innovation - as both requires some amount of findings to substantiate its claims.. So why would anyone rubbish research results.. research states that:-
  • 1 in 3 women die of heart related disease.. does that mean you will die as well.. it states that so we can start looking after our hearts..
  • In 5 years, cancer will have the highest mortality rate.. can that be connected to all the researches done for search of cure
  • More people are becoming vegetarian as a lifestyle change rather than religious.. so have all become vegetarian.. or have people become more aware of gas emissions, carbon footprint, etc.

Researches and Innovations are pertinent for the advancement of humanity, unless you are happy to be Captain Caveman or Flinstones then it’s a different story.

Many of our opinions are formed from books we read, things we see and the exhilarating experience of life.. An opinion is an individual’s (1 or more people) experience highlighted in a string of sentences.. Whether it’s an opinion or the person just opining is all a matter of perspective..  The delivery of the message and the impression it creates is what matters at the end of the day...

THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK or it's FOOT IN THE MOUTH Syndrome.. let’s not get our knickers in a twist.. Agree to Disagree if you see no point forward with the conversation.. Although  I must agree sometimes it is fun bulldozing someone for the sake of doing it.. and more than often its for the sake of feeding our inflated ego.  Much contemplation is required if this sort of drama is really necessary...

But coming to think of it.. many of us do thrive on feeding our inflated ego but not many realise that it is only to nourish our INSECURITIES.. so the next question is what am I learning from this... whether I am wise or otherwise?

I would like to highlight that please don’t compliment yourself and think the article’s about you.. It’s my page.. why would i write about you?

In a state of neutrality

A Perspective I Fail To See..

If I say,
  • All women above age 30 are fat.. would that mean there are no slim women above age 30?
  • Research states terminal illness patients may recover taking a certain supplement.. Does that mean all of them cure patients with terminal illness?
  • All men think with their head down south.. does that mean all of them do?
  • Staying in the urban city is far much more stressful compared to living in the rural towns.. Are we all that stressed out then?
I can continue these statements from many different directions.. and yet there will be no standard answer to all.. everything is relative and a matter of perspective to who, what, where, when and how you relate to the matter at hand..

The phrase knickers in a twist  might ring a bell for some.. As I read a barrage of messages on difference in opinion about maturity in comparison to age.. Mine was a matter of opinion formed from books I have read and experience as well.. and I got bombarded with outrage and name calling as well.. read below excerpts of the messages:-

XYZ        :   Maturity is NEVER measured by age... So it doesn’t matter if someone’s 2...or 7...or 27....or 72!!!  Character is a better bet at JUDGING maturity.... Just my 50 cents worth XXXX.

Me         :   ABC; not all as lucky as u.. was talking generally.. The majority according to research is not as u state..

XYZ        :   Research?! Men are being JUDGED based on “research” ?!?!?!? I’m sorry but that   is just bs to me lar... Just because you take a bunch of people (men or women) and talk and test them out....doesnt give anybody the right to GENERALIZE judge the entire population of men or women.... And another thing...this is nothing about “LUCK”... it’s ALL about FAITH and FATE.... That’s what LIFE is about....

XYZ        :   Dhena:- what you said about age vs maturity ...just insulted a whole host of young men out there... that’s not very fair....neither is that being very matured....

Judging from the reply above, one would have deduced the 'ranting' was more personal and emotional as opposed to the matter at hand...  If research was really BS (bullshit), chemotherapy will not exist, there will be no prevention for pregnancy, our hair will be matted without shampoos, non existent of handphones, we will be walking everywhere without cars, we wont have paper, radios and tvs will be will be unheard off, let alone computers and internet.. the list is really endless when it comes to research and innovation..

So, the first agreement MUST be.. Research is pivotal to the advancement of humanity...  Unless one still wants to live like captain cavemen in the jungles..

My only question is what brought on this 'ranting'???  Much is left to be said.. when one looses the objective of the banter and decides to get into name calling.. then its no more banter but rather an emotional outrage.. but then again all this is a matter of perspective..

wise or otherwise, you decide..

One Leg Kicking – Lessons Learnt

1 year and 9 months later, it dawned upon me that I was walking out with my head held up high from an organisation that started from a bedroom to where it is now..
So what are the lessons learnt, one may ask.. Its easy for those of you who want the boss to be pleased with you, please remember the following:
  1. Shoe Polish a.k.a. Upward Management
  2. Be Nice To Me and I will take care of you or your products will fly a.k.a. if you make me like you, I will take care of you and the products you take care of or you will be history here..
  3. Don’t Argue, Just Do a.k.a. just follow number (2) and you will move on just fine..
  4. Provide better bonussing and you will be Promoted a.k.a. provide more bonussing to the customer, cover up and you will be promoted for sure
  5. Employ Rude and Unprofessional Vendor a.k.a. yes and you are deemed to have mishandled the supplier
  6. Snitch and You Have A Job a.k.a. where politics breed
  7. Deliver the Numbers at the Cost of Losing Your Underwear a.k.a. the hidden agendas that is not visible under naked eyes ( promotions, extra bonussing, discounts, vouchers, etc)
  8. Make Your Mistakes Look Like Someone Else’s a.k.a. always get accomplices to take the blame for you
  9. Conspire Always or Be Conspired a.k.a. have a strategy or you will be the strategy
  10. Always pretend to Agree with the Boss in front of him... then mock him after..
And so, what have I learnt.. one may ask.. to move on to another battlefield.. looking forward for a more positive drama but a drama nonetheless..

To The Best Teacher In My Life - A Toast To All Of You

To my dear teachers,
who opened up my young mind
showing me the wonders of the intellect
and the miracles of being able to think for myself..

You taught me how to use my mental muscles,
stretching it and strengthening it,
so it can make difficult decisions,
to find my way in the world,
and become independent.

You cared enough
To gently push and prod me to do my best
and fulfill my potential.
You are one not but one of those..
But rather the very person in my life..

Thank you to all of you who have touched my life and taught me much..

Love you all,
dhena

Change Is Not Always Good or Bad, But Neutral

The grass is always not greener on the other side.. the same as change is not always bad either.. In the distant I hear a certain ex-boss saying.. Change is Neutral.. its how you react to it depending on your past experiences.

So far change has only been better for me.. in more ways than one.. I am glad i decided to make that change.. the sun's shining and the roses are in full bloom in my world.. Love it, Love it, Love it..

Looking forward for all that life has in store me..

Visiting Batu Caves 2010

Visiting Batu Caves proved to be quite treacherous.. Overall I witnessed..

  1. Organised chaos.. the temple management put a lot of time, thought and resources to ensure that there was crowd control.. but was there crowd control.. i wonder?
  2. Rubbish, rubbish and more rubbish.. Announcements were made that there were bins everywhere.. i found none.. i carried my two empty mineral water bottles back to the train station where i could discard in a proper bin.. Was there bins or was there BINS?
  3. Praises, praises and more praises.. i did not hear praises to Lord Muruga at Batu Caves.. but rather how temple committee chairman contributed to society and the temple..
  4. Donation seeking over PA System.. this was done shamelessly.. over and over again.. somehow it seemed like the entire purpose was lost..
Whilst some of us did experience devotion.. we couldn't miss the other 'activities' around us..

Wise or Otherwise, you decide..
